Native American Week is September 21 - 25, 2015!

Event Details:

The Chippewa Cree Tribe will be celebrating Native American Week once again beginning Monday, September 21st through Friday, the 25th. This year's theme is "Culture is Our Key, the Time is Now." A wide range of activities will be taking place throughout the many reservation locales. The Cultural Resource Preservation Department will kick off the week with a Tribal Elders Breakfast on Monday morning at the THPO Office. The week will culminate with the annual NA Week Parade on Friday, September 25th and a Community Feed sponsored by Plain Green immediately afterward. The following events have a brief description and contact numbers for more information.

The Rocky Boy Health Board will be sponsoring a Diabetes Walk at 9:00 am on Monday. The walk will begin at the Old Stone Child College parking lot, to the Wellness Center and back. At 1:00 pm the SCC Partnership for Healthy  & Safe Choices (PHSC) will sponsor a tribal department 3 on 3 Coed basketball tournament at the RB Wellness Center. 

On Tuesday at 1:00 pm, the Medicaid/WIC & CCT Commodities will be sponsoring "REZ Chopped" at the Lutheran Church. All interested participants will sign up and four (4) names will be drawn out of a hat for competition  Three (3) judges will judge the dishes on presentation, taste, and creativity. There will be one Champion aand three Consolation prizes awarded. For more information call Medicaid/WIC at 395-4506.

The Tribal Water Resources Department is sponsoring a Stick Horse Indian Relay (3 per team). This will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 2:30pm at the agency baseball field/race track. Prizes will be $200.00 for 1st, $100.00 for 2nd, and $50.00 for 3rd. Registration will begin today Thursday September 17, starting at 12:00 noon at KHEW 88.5FM. Indian attire will be required. $20.00 entry fee per team. Stick horses must have proof of health certificate and be coggins tested. All nations (races) eligible. The Chippewa Cree Tribe Child Support Program and ICWA are sponsoring two events. The first is a Scavenger H on Thursday September 24 from 8:00 at to 4:30 am. Teams of 2 with a $10.00 Entry Fee will pick up a scavenger list of fifteen (15) items from Child Support Office. The first three teams to complete the hunt win. Prizes will be 1st Place: $100.00 2nd Place: $75.00 and 3rd Place: $50.00. The 2nd activity is a Tribal Employee Dunk Tank, which will take place on Tuesday at 1:00. $2 a shot or 3 shots for $5 Please contact Child Support at (406) 395-4176 for further information  

White Sky Hope Center will be sponsoring a "Stocking Tug of War" at the Rocky Boy Agency Baseball Field on Thursday, September 24 at 1:00 pm. Contestants will have until 10:00 am on the 24th to sign up for both Men's and Women's categories. Prizes (Gift certificates) will be: $100 for 1st, $75 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd and $25 for 4th. On Monday, September 21 at 1:00, the SCC Partnership for Healthy  & Safe Choices (PHSC) HIV and Substance Abuse Awareness will be sponsoring a Tribal Program 3 on 3 Coed Basketball tournament at the Chippewa Cree Wellness Center. Call Mike Geboe at 395-4313 for more information.

The Tribal Court and Police Department are sponsoring "Jail a Friend."  The days for this will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Every day will involve a different area.  On Tuesday they will be at Rocky Boy Schools, on Wednesday Box Elder Schools, and on Thursday they will be at Stone Child College.  If you have any questions, please call Nate Morsette at the Chippewa Cree Tribal Court.  His number is 395-4808.

The Rocky Boy Wellness Center is sponsoring a Mini Tuff Enuff Contest on Wednesday the 23rd starting at 10:00 am. The Tuff Enuff challenge is designed to test your stamina, determination and all-around strength, while including accuracy and brute force. Entry fees for this event will be $10. Men's and Women's Team Champions will take home all the entry fees plus an additional $100 for 1st, 2nd will receive $50, both from the RBWC. The Chippewa Cree Housing Authority will be sponsoring a Stick Game Singing Contest at 10:00 am on Tuesday at the RB Veteran's Park. 1st prize will be $200, 2nd $150 and 3rd $75.  Immediately following this event at 11:00 am, they will sponsor a Horse Shoe Contest at the Agency baseball field. The entry fee for this contest will be $20 per team. There will be a 100% payout and $200 added as well. On Thursday at 1:00 the CCHA will also sponsor a Men's Jingle/Fancy Combined Dance Contest at the Veteran's Park. Prizes will be: $200 for 1st, $150 for 2nd, $100 for 3rd and $50 for 4th.  Also on tap is a CookOff Contest that is being arranged at this time. Housing staff can be reached at 395-4338.

The Natural Resources Department will sponsor a Turkey Shoot ($1.00 per shot) behind their office building on Wednesday morning beginning at 9:00 am and conclude at 3:00 pm. Prizes for this event will be: 1st - 50% + turkey, 2nd - 30% + turkey, 3rd - 20% + turkey, 4th & 5th places will receive turkeys. On Thursday NRD will sponsor a Closest-to-the-Pin Contest ($1.00 per shot) at Mitchell Field. Prizes for this event will be: 1st - 50%, 2nd - 30% and 3rd - 20%. The NRD will also be having a Raffle for a NA Week Themed basket w/other items, a load of wood and 100 gallons of propane. Winners will be announced after the parade. The Stone Child College NASA program will sponsor a Handgame demonstration in the Kennewash Foyer from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on September 23. On September 24, from 9:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m., three cultural activities will take place at SCC – Drum making with Luke Okanee in the Kennewash Hall Conference Room, Children Squaw Dress making with Kenna Okanee in the Kennewash Hall Conference Room and Native Cooking with Claudette Oats and Tiffany Galbavy at the Jon Morsette Vo-tech Building. The CCT Planning and Development Department will sponsor a "100 words/100 years/$100" writing contest. Entries will be due on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at noon in the Planning Office. There's no age limit for entries.  Contestants will write 100 words about Rocky Boy, the reservation, the past 100 years, the people, the land, and whatever is related.  Photos, pictures, drawings, poems, lists, a few quotes, or whatever writing that conveys one's feelings are welcome. $100 will be given to the winner. The CCT Senior Citizens Center will be sponsoring a Hide Tanning demonstration by Leslie Lodge Pole from Tuesday through Thursday mornings. On Wednesday at 11:00 the SCS will sponsor a Cree Bingo session. On Thursday at 11:00 am, Harriet Standing Rock will provide a Deer Skinning & Preparation demonstration for females at the SCS. The Family Resource Center will be sponsoring Arts & Crafts activities for the community from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Wednesday & Thursday at the center. The FRC gym will be the site of a Chippewa Cree culture and historical display by the Cultural Resource Preservation Department all week long. Call Rosa or Trina at 395-4542 for more information.
